psykopaint 0.9 on the way
Posted on January 22, 2010
As promised the lock on the image size will be removed! unlimited output size. You will be able to scale up or down your image as well.
the gallery will be more community driven with the addition of commenting and rating. And the original image will be saved as well so visitors will be able to see the work that has been done.
first snapshots at the new polygon subdivision feature:
This will be the last iteration before the full version which will include the full membership and the ability to print the work on canvas!

“And the original image will be saved as well…”
Please Mathieu, make this optional.I will be happy psykopainting, but without sending my originals,
In many cases I have a different destination for them,or simply I don’t want to send it.
Thank you
oh ok, didn’t think about it. But alright, making it optional is good to me
Excellent! Can we draw polygons like we can draw triangles with the Delaunay tool or is it a brush?
Also, will we be able to save as a SVG or other vector format?
Can’t wait for the new version!
We draw a polygon by adding points and then closing it. Once the polygon has been created we can subdivide it by pressing and releasing in any direction to cut the polygon at a certain angle.
It would be difficult to implement exporting format in SVG inside psykopaint since the framework is bitmap based. But i thought about making a kind of online widget with this tool that could eventually be exported in svg. But i’m afraid i have lots of things on the go at the moment so i will see if this feature is not too time costly.
A follow-up…is it possible to just keep drawing new polygons that average the color and NOT subdividing? I guess it would be like drawing points with the Delaunay tool but not be limited to triangles.
I’d like to use Psykopaint to get results like this:

wow! that looks really good!
Yes you will be able to draw only polygons with points without subdividing it. Although for now what i have is that we can just create convex polygon as making points that cross each others might be problematic, but i guess it is important to be able to draw concave polygons. Also i am trying to find a way to have a very good workflow to do this operation, the subdivision is good an easy, but you need to see behind the original, to make it easy to work with etc… If you have any other suggestion i would be gladl! Do you know with which software this image has been made?
good info. I’m eager to try it out when you finish. I believe the image was made in Photoshop and Illustrator. The artist is Charis Tsevis. I’m guessing he uses the Average filter with polygonal selections in Photoshop and autotraces/adjusts colors in Illustrator. I’ve done similar things but it’s time consuming. Thanks again for the update!
It would be great to be able to save brush settings so I don’t have to figure them out again (which I can rarely do). Maybe this can be done via a cookie and saved under whatever name the user wants. I would like to save more than one.
Hi Ron, Thanks for the suggestion. This will definitely happen in the future. As users will be able to register, once they log in they will find their settings again. Just i am not sure when this will happen as i have already a huge list of todo things!
Can’t wait for the new version!
